SpeedCast Limited and Eutelsat Communication extend their Americas network coverage of their Global Maritime solution.

Wednesday, October 07, 2009

SpeedCast Limited and Eutelsat Communication today announced expanded coverage of their Maritime solution, with the extension of reach across the Atlantic Ocean and the Americas. The Maritime solution now covers all the main shipping lanes over Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean, as well as around the Americas and the Panama Canal.

SpeedCast and Eutelsat have been partnering since March 2007, and together in March 2008 launched the first seamless Auto Beam Switching (ABS) Ku-band maritime service addressing numerous maritime verticals, including commercial shipping.

This partnership brings together expertise from Eutelsat, one of the world's leading satellite operators and SpeedCast, a major satellite communications service provider in Asia, wholly owned by AsiaSat, the leading regional satellite operator in Asia.

The global Ku-band solution provided by both companies has already brought multiple benefits to crew welfare on board including Internet access, video and voice services for a reduced fixed fee per month. With the simple installation of a small one meter antenna, the maritime community can benefit from on-board always-on broadband connectivity with unlimited usages.

"Addressing the high market demand from ship-owners for extended coverage of the Americas was a further important step for Eutelsat and SpeedCast" said Laurent Paul, Director Maritime Services from Eutelsat Communication. "This demand also demonstrates how VSAT services are now fully integrated as a core solution in the worldwide maritime broadband market."

"This is a logical next step in our ambition to meet our customers' demands for greater maritime VSAT coverage, and a clear indication of the growing popularity of Ku-band in particular. As more satellites are planned to be launched over the next few years with more Ku-band capacity over the oceans, we will be continuously upgrading our network coverage to offer our customers a best-in-class service" said Nick Dukakis, Vice President Maritime Services from SpeedCast.
