Asia Pacific Maritime 2010 (24-26 March 2010 at Singapore Expo)
SpeedCast and Eutelsat's presence were highly felt at this year's Asia Pacific Maritime (APM) held recently in Singapore. The three days event which started from 24th March to the 26th March attracted 9,821 visitors across Asia Pacific, the United States, Europe and the Middle East. In addition, there was a big increase in the number of exhibitors participating and the number of customers visiting this year with 938 exhibiting companies from 55 countries worldwide compared to APM participants in 2008 of about 620 companies.
For the third time, SpeedCast was exhibiting and experienced the growing interest from a variety of customers in our VSAT solutions and Value Added Services. During the exhibition many companies confirmed their interest in our maritime global Ku band service with fixed monthly service fees compared to "pay as you go" L band services. Their requirements concerning communications on board vessels have changed since a few years ago, and are now more interested in broadband fixed fee services due to the growing number of IP based applications coming to the market and the ever growing voice, data and video communications between vessels and land based sites. Companies who are cost conscious, and requires vessels to send huge amounts of data, are looking into VSAT as a means to manage and control their communications budget.
Held in partnership with APM, The Marine Electronics and Communications Asia Conference organised by Rivieram, has been the perfect international forum for information gathering and networking. This conference was regrouping all the key players from this industry. Nick Dukakis, SpeedCast's Vice President Maritime Services was a key panel speaker during this conference. Nick shared his experience on how different ship-to-shore communications solutions can best be deployed and integrated in order to meet the needs of ship-owners' applications and budgets improving their overall cost and operational performance.
