The majority of shipping companies are taking advantage of new technological advancements, such as real-time monitoring of vessel performance, artificial intelligence, remote control operations, etc., it is a trend absolutely critical in order for the industry to reach its performance and sustainability goals. The Speedcast strategy is to provide a complete connectivity platform – Speedcast Atlas – and deliver it using a process of “Consultative Engagement”, which helps customers to identify the communications and services they will need to help them complete their digital journeys.
While some shipowners have the resources in-house to run digitalization projects, the risk for others is that not enough attention is paid to the “change management” that may also be required. This particularly affects how companies manage their human resources in relation to new technology. Too many technology adoption projects fail because the impact of the human factor is overlooked or underestimated.
