Houston, Texas — February 22, 2023 — Speedcast, a leading communications and IT services provider, announces Speedcast TrueBeam has been nominated for Via Satellite’s 2022 Satellite Technology of the Year Award. The nominees are chosen based on innovation, benefit to the industry, and overall disruption to the satellite landscape.

Speedcast’s patented TrueBeam technology is one of the foremost tools ensuring the highest levels of performance and availability for Speedcast customers operating in the most remote locations around the world.  TrueBeam enables complete, automated network management via algorithm-based centralized capacity and load balancing across the entire Speedcast network. The technology, designed by Speedcast engineers, operates without human intervention, providing proactive monitoring and automatic selection of optimal coverage for a remote site by employing a quick and consistent process for fast and error-free beam switching.

The intelligent system predicts and mitigates network challenges, giving remote sites, especially vessels and maritime and offshore operations, the ability to seamlessly maintain communications, even while moving in and out of a satellite beam’s coverage area. Considering various factors, including footprint contours, vessel location, network capacity, and itineraries, TrueBeam combines smart beam-switching and SD-WAN traffic-steering to maximize network performance. The technology is TDMA platform-agnostic and can be used as an overlay to whatever platform is being implemented, based on specific customer operational and capacity requirements, to best manage satellite beams and coverage needs.

Speedcast has made substantial investments in network management technologies, with future-ready, software-defined services to enable 100% uptime for customers. In 2022, Speedcast added 13 Gbps of capacity to its global network at a record-setting pace in order to meet customer growth demands. The rapid expansion was enabled by TrueBeam, helping the company to stand up 65 new networks in a matter of weeks, thanks to TrueBeam’s automated network management technology.

The winner of the 2022 Satellite Technology of the Year will be determined by a combination of the Via Satellite editorial team and votes that come directly from industry. The public can vote for Speedcast TrueBeam online.

“We’re excited to have been nominated for this prestigious award, and believe the honor appropriately reflects the value that Speedcast TrueBeam is bringing to our customers,” said Joe Spytek, CEO at Speedcast. “TrueBeam is moving the needle for the remote communications industry, optimizing major vessel operations, as evidenced by our customer use cases. The recognition goes to the dedicated team of Speedcast engineers and developers who worked tirelessly to design and deploy this exciting, algorithm-based technology.”
