Rio de Janeiro July 17, 2023 – SC CapRock, the Brazilian entity of Speedcast – a leading communications and IT services provider which has a global agreement with Nokia to implement LTE private wireless networks – has recently signed a global agreement for the sale of Starlink’s corporate services, as an authorized Starlink integrator.

The Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (DAC), a leading-edge 4.9G/LTE and 5G private wireless solution, will be integrated with the Starlink solution. This agreement will enable the expansion of connectivity using private wireless networks in remote areas or yet-to-be covered regions, through Starlink low-orbit satellites, providing the connectivity link back to the Nokia solution.

SC CapRock currently deploys LTE private wireless network solutions from Nokia, with whom it has a long-term agreement. “This agreement is focused on mission-critical applications in remote locations in Brazil that are not yet served. With low-latency (down to 100ms) between the 4G/LTE radio base stations (BTS) and the private wireless core, Nokia DAC can operate using Starlink to expand coverage or create 4G coverage bubbles for our customers in remote areas,” said André Gustavo Sant’Anna, country manager for SC CapRock in Brazil.

The two companies – SC CapRock and Nokia – have already implemented a state-of-the-art LTE private wireless network for Origem Energia to connect its natural gas plants and associated energy wells in the municipalities of Alagoas and Bahia.

With this new partnership incorporating Starlink, customers can expand coverage to remote areas, by simply deploying portable radio base stations and using Starlink’s satellite network as a backhaul link to carry the data from the BTS back to a DAC private wireless core that is already deployed at a site. This approach decreases complexity for small remote sites as it reduces the need to install a new private wireless core, new towers and energy systems.

“There is growing demand from the agribusiness, energy and mining sectors for private wireless networks, and the recent global agreement with Starlink will help us provide high-speed, low-latency connectivity to these customers, with high levels of performance and operational efficiency,” said Sant’Anna.

Marcelo Entreconti, Head of Enterprise for Latin America at Nokia, said: “We’re happy to partner with SC CapRock in this initiative, providing Nokia’s leading-edge private wireless solutions to accelerate digital transformation throughout enterprises in Brazil, enhancing productivity, safety, and efficiency with secure and reliable connectivity.”

Nokia has deployed mission-critical networks to more than 2,600 leading enterprise customers in the transportation, energy, large enterprise, manufacturing, webscale and public sector segments around the globe. The company has also extended its expertise to more than 595 private wireless customers worldwide and have been cited as the leading provider of private, industrial-grade wireless networking worldwide by numerous industry analysts.

The two companies are hosting technology demonstrations throughout the week of July 17-21 at SC Caprock’s Macaé Teleport Facility. Formal requests to participate can be submitted by completing the online interest form.
