As part of the Starlink Assessment Series, our engineering teams are putting the Starlink Mini to the test in remote locations. Want to know how it performs? Check out the video here.

Although Starlink is not releasing the Mini for Enterprise users yet, our technical team put the kit to the test now to give you our expert performance insights early. Read on for all the details to find out if the Starlink Mini is right for your operational needs.

Starlink Mini – What’s in the Box?

Unboxing the Starlink Mini, you’ll find the unit itself, accompanied by two stands: a kickstand for flat surfaces and a pole mount for added elevation. The kit also includes a power cable and supply. The built-in Wi-Fi router allows for easy connectivity, but for those who require enhanced security and control—including business users—consider adding a solution to optimize and manage your connectivity effectively, like Speedcast’s SIGMA network management platform.

Portability and Performance

The Starlink Mini is lightweight and compact, making it easy to carry in a backpack. Speed tests conducted on a Starlink residential service plan yielded impressive results: 136 Mbps download and 7.5 Mbps upload. For residential and leisure users, these speeds tick the box for streaming your favorite shows or participating in video conferences.

However, for critical applications, Speedcast recommends the Starlink Enterprise kit with Priority Service plans. These plans offer more robust performance and ensure prioritized connectivity during times of peak congestion.

It is important to keep in mind that Starlink operates on a “best effort” basis, meaning there are no assurances regarding data volume or the frequency of outages. To mitigate this, Speedcast integrates Starlink as part of a multi-service system for customers, combining it with other connectivity options that offer guaranteed service levels or a committed information rate (CIR).

Power and Mobility

The energy-efficient Starlink Mini operates on a modest 25 to 40 watts. During testing, we powered it with a solar panel charging a battery, showcasing its adaptability to run on a car or boat battery as well. This flexibility opens up a world of possibilities for where and how you can use this technology.

Setup is simple: plug in the power, find a clear spot, and within five minutes, you’re connected—even in the most remote areas.

As the world’s first authorized Starlink integrator, Speedcast is at the forefront of assessing innovative LEO-based connectivity services for our customers. The Starlink Mini is currently available in select regions for residential users only.
